How EZ College Match Works
We believe college discovery should be objective, stress-free, and grounded in mutual compatibility—not opaque ranking algorithms or advertising sponsorships.
Fit Score vs. Admissions Acceptance Probability
The EZ College Match Score represents how well a university meets your personal, financial, academic, and environmental preferences. It is an index of mutual compatibility.
It is NOT an admissions chance calculator. For example, an applicant with a 1550 SAT and a 3.98 GPA interested in Computer Science may have a 97% Fit Score with MIT or Stanford, even though those universities have admission rates below 4% and reject thousands of highly qualified applicants each year.
The 5 Dimensions of the Fit Score
Our algorithm combines 5 factors to determine your personalized match percentage.
1. Academic Compatibility (30% Weight)
30%We compare your SAT or ACT score against the college's admitted 25th to 75th percentile middle-50% band, and your GPA against admitted averages. Scoring within or above the 25th percentile produces high academic alignment. For test-optional students, GPA rigor and course load drive the calculation without penalty.
2. Major & Departmental Excellence (25% Weight)
25%General prestige is often misleading. We evaluate specific department tiering, faculty achievements, specialized labs, and employer recruitment in your chosen field of study (e.g. Computer Science, Pre-Med, Business, or Liberal Arts).
3. Budget & Financial Aid Commitments (20% Weight)
20%We analyze estimated net prices after institutional grants, not inflated sticker prices. For students seeking financial aid, institutions that meet 100% of demonstrated financial need with no-loan packages receive top affordability ratings.
4. Campus Setting, Region & Size (15% Weight)
15%Where you spend your four years defines your college experience. We evaluate geographic preferences, urban vs suburban vs college-town environments, and undergraduate size (small seminars vs large university scale).
5. Core Priority Multiplier (10% Weight)
10%Whatever you declare matters most—corporate career placement, undergraduate research access, athletic spirit, diversity, or maximum ROI—receives a direct multiplier boost in your final ranking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the college data sourced from?
All data points—including 25th–75th percentile test scores, tuition costs, net prices, and undergraduate enrollments—are compiled from official Common Data Sets (CDS), the National Center for Education Statistics (IPEDS), and published university financial aid disclosures.
How should I construct my college application list?
We recommend using your match results to select a balanced list: 2–3 Safety schools (high fit, admit rate > 35%, scores above 75th percentile), 4–5 Target schools (strong fit, scores in middle 50%), and 2–3 Reach schools (great fit, highly selective or scores below 25th percentile).

Yes, 100% free. We do not sell student data, we do not accept paid college sponsorships to boost school rankings, and there are no paywalls.
